Tuesday’s Fayetteville City Council meeting marked an eventful night of discussion. 

A bridge on East Russell Street in downtown Fayetteville is closed for an indefinite period of time, the N.C. Department of Transportation said, following a natural gas fire on Christmas Eve and Christmas day that heavily damaged the bridge and injured two people.

Members of the Fayetteville City Council collectively shut down an attempt to censure Mayor Mitch Colvin and Council Member Mario Benavente brought forth by Council Member Courtney Banks-McLaughlin at the council’s Tuesday meeting.
