The Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County has announced a new grant program that will provide additional support for Cumberland County’s underserved communities and the cultural arts sector.

The Airborne & Special Operations Museum is hosting two World War II exhibits. Running concurrently with “Courage and Compassion: The Legacy of The Bielski Brothers” exhibit, “Operation HALYARD” highlights the heroic mission to rescue downed U.S. airmen from Nazi-occupied Serbia during the waning months of World War II.

Mr. and Mrs. James Ford Smith of Fayetteville announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Carrie Marie Smith, to Walton Kenneth Herring III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walton Kenneth Herring Jr. of Fayetteville. The wedding will take place on Saturday, June 25, at Shell Island Resort in Wrightsville Beach. After their honeymoon in St. Lucia, the couple will live in Fayetteville.

The U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum is pleased to present Courage and Compassion: The Legacy of the Bielski Brothers. This original, award-winning exhibition showcases the heroic efforts of three brothers who helped save more than 1,200 people while living in the forest during the Second World War.  

TRP Sumner celebrated the expansion of its Fayetteville location with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 9. The need for expansion came after TRP Sumner was formed in 2020 through the merger of CPA firms TRP and McFadyen & Sumner.

Kids with Hearts for the Arts presents An Evening with the Arts on June 18. This cocktail attire event will feature performances by local youth artists throughout North Carolina, refreshments and prizes featuring items from local small businesses. The event, which is 7 to 9:30 p.m., is a fundraiser for artistic scholarships for children seeking arts education. Kids with Hearts for the Arts was established by Huck Borden and Annika Benander in 2020 to showcase youth artistic talent and promote scholarship opportunities for kids in the arts.

Mr. and Mrs. Walton Kenneth Herring Jr. of Fayetteville announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Dr. Caroline Canady Herring, to Mr. Colton Barefoot Kinsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Junius Kinsey of Benson. The wedding will take place on Saturday, June 11, at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

Join us for "An Evening of Art and Wine" at Lisa's Custom Framing on June 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1226 Fort Bragg Road in the heart of Haymount. Enjoy a glass of wine, meet artist Kevin Collie and browse through an awe-inspiring collection of photos. Collie’s gallery-quality photos depict scenery from the coast of North Carolina, including impressive compositions and striking details.

Pondamania

Pablo Picasso said every child is an artist. Help the children in your life tap into their creative side at Cape Fear Botanical Garden during the third annual Pondamania – A Children’s Art Explosion presented by Ray and Daphne Manning as we celebrate nature. The event is free for children under 12.

“Fairview”

The final mainstage show of the Gilbert Theater's 2021-22 season, “Fairview,’’ opens Friday, May 27. What starts out as a sitcom about a family soon turns into a brilliant look at race in America. “Fairview’’ runs through Sunday, June 12, with shows on Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at gilberttheater.com.
