Where to donate items this holiday season

With Christmas just around the corner, it's the perfect time to think about giving back. 

Here you’ll find a list of organizations and outreach efforts accepting donations to those in need this holiday season. While this list is focused on donating items, most of these organizations accept monetary donations as well.

Catholic Charities Fayetteville 

  • Where: 726 Ramsey St., Suite 10 F, Fayetteville 
  • Donation hours: 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday
  • What: Traditional food pantry, also offering disaster relief and legal immigration services
  • Items most sought: canned and dry items, including beef stew, carrots, chicken, fruits, spaghetti and tomatoes, chicken noodle soup, corn, corn beef hash, cereal, jelly, green beans, instant pancake mix, macaroni & cheese, pancake syrup, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, rice, tuna, vegetable beef soup

The Jehovah Jireh Christian Church Outreach Center 

  • Where: 2236 Southern Ave., Fayetteville (2nd Chance Thrift Store)
  • Donation hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday
  • What: Food and clothing assistance to families in Cumberland County and surrounding areas. 
  • Items most sought: children's clothing, mattresses and box springs

FTTC Food Pantry 

  • Where: Horace Sisk Building (HOS), Room 708, 2204 Hull Rd., Fayetteville
  • Donation hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • What: Food pantry offering nonperishable food and personal care items to FTTC students in need 
  • Items most sought: canned fruit, canned meat/tuna/chicken, canned soup, canned vegetables, cereal, coffee, crackers, dry beans, jelly, pasta, rice, peanut butter, ramen noodles, tomato sauce, feminine products, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, grocery store gift cards valued at $10-25

Fayetteville Area Operation InasMuch

  • Where: 531 HIllsboro St., Fayetteville
  • Donation hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays
  • What: Provides resources to the unhoused in Fayetteville 
  • Items most sought: antibacterial wipes, jelly, paper towels, foot spray & powder, sugar, large and extra-large gloves, lip balm, powdered creamer, Ziploc bags, tissues, coffee napkins, feminine products, teabags, toilet paper, hair brushes, syrup, trash bags (55-gallon), hand sanitizer, Belvita breakfast bars, gloves (cleaning), shaving cream, Nutri-Grain bars, umbrellas (small, collapsible), eggs, rain ponchos, razors, clean and new socks, underwear and T-shirts in all men and women’s sizes

Fayetteville Urban Ministry 

  • Where: 701 Whitfield St., Fayetteville 
  • Donation hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. (Clothing donations are only accepted on Mondays and Fridays.)
  • What: Food pantry and clothing closet 
  • Items most sought: clothes, shoes, household items (including dishes, lamps, silverware, small decor pieces), food, hygiene items, belts, cars, ties, purses, toys

Coats for the Children

  • Where: Any of the five Jiffy Lube drop-off sites in Fayetteville 
  • Donation hours: Variable (see this page). Donations accepted through Dec. 31.
  • What: Used winter clothing drive
  • Items most sought: gently-used winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, new long underwear, T-shirts and socks

Cumberland County Animal Services

  • Where: 4704 Corporation Dr., Fayetteville
  • Donation hours: 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays
  • What: Cumberland County animal shelter
  • Items most sought: pet food and supplies
  • Contact: 910-321-6852

Fayetteville Animal Protection Society 

  • Where: 3927 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville (can also ship items here)
  • Donation hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday; 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday and Monday 
  • What: The only no-kill, nonprofit animal shelter in Cumberland County 
  • Items most sought: Diamond Naturals Adult Dry Food, Diamond Naturals for Sensitive Skin/Coat, puppy food (Diamond Naturals or Pro Plan), non-clumping cat litter, pill pockets, omega fish oil, L-Lysine powder, scratcher pads, cleaning supplies: bleach, paper towels, mop heads, floor squeegees

Connections of Cumberland County 

  • Where: 119 N. Cool Spring St., Fayetteville
  • Donation hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday
  • What: Works with singles women, with or without children, experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness 
  • Items most sought: feminine hygiene wipes, pads, tampons, bar soap, lotion, shaving cream, razors, individual travel bottles, gentry used children’s books, financial donations to assist with rental deposits and eviction prevention costs
