Social Services giving fans to eligible residents

Posted

The Cumberland County Department of Social Services is providing a free box fan to eligible residents.

The fans are being distributed through the Fan Giveaway Program, which provides fans to eligible residents who don’t have access to air conditioning in the summer, the county said in a release.

Residents must fall below 200% of the current poverty level and have a family member in the home under the age of 2, over the age of 60, or with a heat sensitive medical condition, the release said.

Residents must go to the Department of Social Services at 1225 Ramsey St. to talk with a social worker and complete an assessment, the release said. Those who qualify will receive a fan the same day.

Those who are unable to get to the Department of Social Services should call  910-677-2388 or 910-677-2389 to speak with a social worker and complete an assessment. Those residents will be given a date, time and location to pick up a fan.
