Summertime Kids grant to provide books to campers

Posted

A program that puts books and tote bags in the hands of young readers has been awarded $6,000 in grant money. The Summertime Kids program provides books to children and teenagers attending community summer camps, the Cumberland County Public Library said in a news release.

The Cumberland Community Foundation has awarded the Summertime Kids grant every summer since 1992 and has helped more than 1,000 youths gain life-changing summer experiences, the release said.

Library staff will visit camps offered by local nonprofit groups, neighborhood groups and other community organizations to deliver two age-appropriate books and a tote bag to each child from June through August at the following locations:

• Boys and Girls Club.
• Cape Fear Botanical Garden.
• Cape Fear Regional Theatre.
• Communities United for Youth Development.
• Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation.
• Fayetteville State University Space Camp.
• Fayetteville Urban Ministry.
• The First Tee of the Sandhills.
• Greater Life of Fayetteville.
• Moore Street Foundation.
• Salvation Army.
• St. Ann Neighborhood Youth Center.
