In a prestigious recognition of educational excellence, Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr., superintendent of Cumberland County Schools, was honored as the "Outstanding Educator of the Year" at the Greater Fayetteville Chamber Annual Awards held Tuesday evening.

This esteemed award highlights his unwavering commitment, innovation and passion in the field of education. The award was created to honor those working in K-12 public or private schools, or higher education institutions within Cumberland County, who have notably contributed to the school community, fostered a love for learning and inspired students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Outstanding Educator of the Year award from the Greater Fayetteville Chamber," said Dr. Connelly. "This recognition is truly reflective of the collective effort and dedication of all Cumberland County Schools educators. I share this honor with them. Their commitment to our students' success is the real driving force behind this recognition."

In addition to Dr. Connelly's recognition, the Chamber celebrated the achievements of two other notable CCS educators who were nominated for this award. Sheena Patterson, school social worker at Ferguson-Easley Elementary, and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Shepherd, teacher at Vanstory Hills Elementary, were both acknowledged for their exceptional contributions to education and their ability to inspire and motivate students.
