FTCC Foundation has received a grant of $20,000 from the Duke Energy Foundation to support the lineworker program at Fayetteville Technical Community College. The funds will be used for the following for the FTCC lineworker program:

  • Fund recruitment and outreach activities to reach diverse and underrepresented students who are interested in careers as electric lineworkers.
  • Provide scholarships and financial aid for underrepresented students.
  • Purchase safety gear, tools and training materials.

"We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Duke Energy Foundation for this transformative grant," said FTCC President Dr. Mark Sorrells. "This funding will propel the FTCC Electric Lineworker Program to new heights, enabling us to provide more students with the industry-aligned training and expertise they need to thrive in this essential field."

FTCC’s Electric Lineworker Basic Training program is a 368-hour, 12-week course that trains students in electrical safety, pole-climbing techniques, equipment assembly and function, truck operations and circuit voltages.

The course is designed for current and potential electric utility employees. The training can pertain to contractors, cooperative electric, and public and private electrical utilities.

"This investment will not only empower students from underrepresented communities to achieve their full potential but also contribute to the development of a robust workforce of skilled lineworkers in our region," Sorrells said.

FTCC Foundation partners with donors to support Fayetteville Technical Community College by raising awareness and financial resources to provide college access for students to attain their educational and career goals.  The mission of FTCC Foundation is to foster and promote the growth, progress, and general welfare of FTCC, provide supplementary financial support to the College and its students, and advance and enrich the services provided for students, the community, alumni, faculty and staff.

Fayetteville Technical Community College is the third-largest community college in North Carolina. The mission of FTCC is to serve the community as a learning-centered institution to build a globally competitive workforce that supports economic development.
