Fayetteville police officers shot suspect in armed robbery

Fayetteville police officers shot the suspect of an armed robbery on Ramsey Street on Tuesday,  the Fayetteville Police Department announced in a statement Tuesday afternoon. 

According to the statement, officers responded to a report of a suspect brandishing a handgun during a robbery of a business on Ramsey Street. Upon arriving on scene, officers were informed of GPS tracker in the money the suspect had taken,  police said. 

"A brief foot pursuit occurred, and the suspect, armed with a handgun, was encountered on the train tracks at Moore Street and Mechanic Street. Shots were fired," the statement said. 

Police said a handgun was recovered from the scene, and the offendor was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for medical treatment after the shooting. 

The police department said the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has assumed the investigation and has directed all questions regarding the investigation  to the SBI.
