Ethel Edwards

Ethel M. Edwards, age 91 of Manitowoc, formerly of Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, June 29th, 2021, at River Woods Place in Manitowoc.

Ethel was born on November 2nd, 1929 in North Carolina, daughter of the late Roy B. and Ethel Meta McLemore. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Central High School in Cumberland County, NC and went on to attend Women's College of UNC. Ethel continued her education at Virginia Medical College to pursue a career in nursing. It was during a summer school class at Boone, NC that she met & fell in love with Matthew G. Edwards, Jr. They were married the following Memorial Day in 1951. Together they raised three daughters and celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing on March 11, 2008. Ethel enjoyed bowling and golfing in her earlier years and played bridge until her early 80's. She especially loved helping others and volunteered with the Pink Lady Auxiliary for 30 years at the hospital in Perry, GA.

Ethel adored her family and considered them her greatest achievement. She will be dearly missed by all of us and all who knew her. She is survived by her three daughters: Linda (Frank) Riley, Hiawassee, GA; Gwen Petrashek, Two Rivers,WI; Kathy Edwards, Perry, Ga; 3 grandchildren: Heather (Joe) Rank, Nicholas (Stacey) Meens, Patrick Meens; and 3 great grandchildren: Landon Meens, Logan Rank & Eva Hogsed; one sister: Louise Holland, Fayetteville, NC; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her sister Judy Cain.

Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and a Christian burial will take place at a later date.
