E.E. Smith announces inductees into sports hall of fame
Athletes will be honored at spring banquet

E.E. Smith High School recently announced the newest additions to its sports hall of fame.
The entire class will be honored at a banquet in the spring.
Here are capsule biographies of this year’s inductees. The year after each name is the year the player graduated from E.E. Smith.
In addition to the individual inductees, two teams coached by the late D.T. Carter will be inducted.
They are the 1967 state championship football team and the 1968 co-championship team.
William Bristow II (1961): Football standout. Made All-State and played in East-West All-Star game. Lettered in basketball and baseball.
Chris Corders (1987): All-State, All-East, All-Conference. Played on nationally ranked basketball team. Sporting News Freshman All-American 1987.
Juan Maurice Corders (1972): Three-time All-Conference wrestler. Football consensus All-American in high school. Played at Duke.
Edgar Farmer Jr. (1965): All-State football. Scholarship to J.C. Smith. All-CIAA. J.C. Smith Sports Hall of Fame.
Sabrina Gregory (2004): Varsity basketball and volleyball. Received multiple major honors in basketball. Scored 1,286 points at Charlotte. Multiple trips to NCAA playoffs as player and coach. WNIT Final Four 2011.
Kenneth Haywood (1999): Conference and regional player of the year in basketball. Two-year record of 49-8. Four-year starter, team MVP, All-CIAA and had jersey retired at Fayetteville State.
Vandalia Wood McAdoo (1936): All-Star center in basketball. MVP at Fayetteville State. Inducted into Fayetteville State Sports Hall of Fame.
James O. McLinnaham (1986): Lettered in football, track and wrestling. All-Conference, All-State, All-Region in wrestling. Four-time CIAA wrestling champion at Winston-Salem State. NCAA Division II All-American 1989. Member C.E. Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame and John McLennon Hall of Fame.
Anquell McCollum (1992): Lettered in basketball and cross country. All-State and All-Conference in basketball. Team MVP and Conference Player of the Year. Two-time All-Conference at Western Carolina.
Terence L. Murchison (1969): All-State in basketball. Four-year starter at Fayetteville State. Member of 1973 Fayetteville State championship team. Drafted by Carolina Cougars.
Wardell Smith Jr. (1991): Rushed for 2,454 yards and led the football team to 13-1 record in senior season. Conference Player of the Year. Inducted into East Carolina Hall of Fame with three 1,000-yard seasons.
Bernard Timmons (1986): All-State football. East-West All-Star and Shrine Bowl participant. Four letters in basketball and track. Starting middle linebacker at North Carolina.
LaKeisha Shanelle Williams (2004): Lettered in volleyball, basketball, track and cross country. Conference champion in discus, shot and triple jump. MEAC champion in triple jump. Coached volleyball, basketball and track at E.E. Smith.
Richard Williams (1958): All-Conference in football. Played in East-West game. Four-year player at Fayetteville State.
James Tillman Newkirk (contributor): Longtime athletic bus driver and person in charge of cleaning and care of uniforms. School custodian. Youth baseball coach and adult softball umpire.
