Hope Mills commissioners will hear several budget request presentations and updates on town projects at the board’s 7 p.m. meeting Monday at Town Hall.
Committee budget requests
The chairperson for each town committee will be presenting budget requests to the board ahead of the 2024-25 fiscal year budget workshop. The proposed budgets for the respective committees:
The board will meet on March 7 for their budget retreat to discuss whether these budgeted amounts will be appropriated.
Public hearing
The board will hold a public hearing on the petition request for a potential annexation of 7.95 acres at 6905 Camden Road. Town staff want to zone the majority of the property into a residential district. The other portion will be requested to be zoned as planned service and retail.
Other business
The board will also consider a proclamation in recognition of Women’s History Month and recognizing Hope Mills Town Charter Day.
The Hope Mills Rockfish Baseball Team will provide an update on field renovations. They expect field work to be completed on April 5, according to a letter from Parks & Recreation Director Lamarco Morrison to the town.
The Stormwater Department is asking the town to approve a Household Hazardous Waste & Shred event for April 27 for residents. The event is held annually to get rid of excess paper and legal documents. The official motion would also instruct Town Manager Chancer McLaughlin to contract with a shredding firm.
The board will also consider accepting a bid proposal from Diamond Constructors Inc. for the construction of the Veterans Memorial Parking Lot. If the board accepts the bid, the contract should not be more than $128,000, according to the agenda.
The board will also vote to dispose of three vehicles considered surplus property.
Before going to a closed session regarding attorney-client privilege and personnel matters, the board will discuss the addition of three streets to the town. The streets are Scenic Pines Drive, Mayfern Drive and Legend Creek Drive. These streets are part of the Sheffield Farms Subdivision project.
McLaughlin will also provide updates to the board on town projects, N.C. Dept. of Transportation construction projects, and upcoming community events.
