Mary Alice ((Johnson)) Doby

Posted

Mary Alice Johnson Doby, 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2024 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, with family by her side. Mary was a loving sister, aunt, cousin, a friend, and a proud lifelong resident of the Cedar Creek area.

After graduating from Stedman High School, Mary went on to pursue her dream of becoming a

hair stylist. She loved harvesting a variety of vegetables from the family farm on Cedar Creek Rd. that brother Ronald grew. Mary was known for her delicious southern style banana pudding and her home style cooking.

Some of Mary’s fondest memories was when she was able to secure a little camper at White

Lake, with a most precious front porch. There, she enjoyed summer entertainment, outdoor

worship service, gospel sings, cook outs, meeting neighbors, and developing new friendships.

In 2017, Mary suffered a severe stroke, which left her partially paralyzed. Even though one side

of her body was paralyzed, Mary still managed to have a Wednesday night dinner for her sisters, Barbara, Irene, and brother-in-law Donald. Mary was an avid, “Find the Word” enthusiast; she sat in her wheel chair, filling up book after book.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nelson Doby; parents, Alexander and

Isabelle Johnson. She leaves behind to cherish her memories; siblings, Barbara Almendarez (late

husband, Jack), Catherine Irene Bell (Donald), Ronald Johnson (Charlene). Nieces, Nicole

Roberts (Stacy), Kristen Davis (Joe), Amber Johnson and Candance Johnson. Nephew, Ron Johnson Jr., (Michelle) and her cousins and friends

Mary will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her!

The family would like to express our appreciation to Liberty Hospice, Fayetteville, for the

wonderful care given to our sweet, loving sister, Mary; and to our family.

Graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday May 8th 2024 at 1:oopm on at Judson Baptist Church Cemetery, Cedar Creek Road, Fayetteville, NC where Mary was a lifetime member.
